Is There an Easy Way to Manage Social Media Accounts?

Bizer · 2026-10-01

The easy way to manage social media is to manage less of it. One or two accounts, posts written in a batch, and a scheduling tool to send them out on time. That is the whole trick, and it is mostly not about the tool.

Scheduling tools are worth using. They are not an easy button. They remove the "remember to post" problem and nothing else: you still have to make the posts, answer comments and look at what worked.

What can I do for free?

More than most owners realize.

  • Meta Business Suite is Meta's own free tool for Facebook Pages and Instagram business accounts. You can write a post once, publish or schedule it to both, schedule Reels and Stories, see a calendar of what is planned, and answer Facebook and Instagram messages from one inbox. If your business is only on Facebook and Instagram, start here and you may never need anything else.
  • Buffer's free plan, checked on Buffer's pricing page in October 2026, connects up to three channels and holds ten scheduled posts per channel at a time. The ten is a queue, not a monthly cap: when a post goes out, a slot opens. Buffer's paid Essentials plan was $5 per channel per month, billed yearly, as of the same date.
  • Each platform's built-in scheduler. LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok all let you set a publish time on the post itself.

What about Hootsuite?

Hootsuite was the default answer for years, and the old version of this page was a Hootsuite tutorial. The big change: Hootsuite dropped its free plan in March 2023. As listed on Hootsuite's plans page in October 2026, its cheapest plan, Standard, was $99 a month billed annually, with a 14 day trial and no permanent free tier.

That price makes sense for an agency or a business with a marketing person juggling many accounts and wanting reporting, approvals and team inboxes in one place. For an owner posting three times a week to Facebook and Instagram, it is paying a monthly bill to avoid opening a free tool Meta already gives you. Our view: do not start with Hootsuite. Move to it, or a peer like Sprout Social, when you have a person whose job is social media and the free tools are visibly slowing them down.

What does a sensible setup look like?

For most small businesses:

  1. Pick one or two platforms. Which social networks a small business should use helps with that choice.
  2. Block one hour every other week. Write or record six posts in that hour.
  3. Schedule them in Meta Business Suite, or Buffer if you include a platform Meta does not cover.
  4. Spend five minutes a day on comments and messages. This part cannot be scheduled.
  5. Once a month, look at which posts got replies, shares or calls, and make more of those.

Step four is the one owners skip, and it matters most. A scheduled post that gets a question and no answer does more harm than no post.

What do scheduling tools get wrong?

A few honest costs:

  • The same post everywhere. Tools make it easy to blast one caption to every network. It reads like it. A Facebook neighbor and a LinkedIn contact want different things. Take thirty seconds to adjust each one.
  • Posting during a crisis. A cheerful scheduled post that goes out during a hurricane, a local tragedy or a bad news day for your business looks careless. Know how to pause the queue. How to post on social media during a crisis covers what to say instead.
  • Connection breaks. Third party tools depend on each platform's access rules, which change. Every so often a connection drops silently and posts stop going out. Glance at your live profile weekly, not just the tool's calendar.

Should I just hire someone?

If you can afford it and find someone who will learn your business, maybe. A freelancer posting generic content from a template library is not worth much, because the posts that work for local businesses are the ones only you can make: your crew, your customers, your town. If you hire, pay for someone who shows up, takes pictures and writes like you talk.

What is uncertain

Tool pricing and free plan limits change often. Every figure here was checked in October 2026 and may be different by the time you read it. Which features Meta Business Suite supports for which account types also shifts. Check the provider's own pricing page before you commit, and prefer month-to-month billing for the first few months until you know you will keep using the tool.
