Louisiana parish guides
All 64 parishes, with the sales tax that runs there, whether an occupational license is levied, how many businesses operate, and what the average job pays. Louisiana collects local tax locally, so the parish is the unit that matters.
Checked 27 August 2026
Louisiana collects local sales tax locally. That single fact is why there is no such thing as "the Louisiana rate", and why a business two parishes over files with a different office than you do.
This is every parish, with the four numbers that actually change a decision: what sales tax runs there, whether an occupational license is levied outside the towns, how many businesses operate in the parish, and what the average job pays. The rate tables behind it hold 452 taxing jurisdictions, and the occupational license directory covers 363 licensing jurisdictions.
How to read this
- Sales tax range. Lowest to highest combined rate across all the taxing jurisdictions inside the parish.
- Occupational license. Whether the parish levies it outside the towns, not inside them. It is an annual tax separate from sales tax.
- Businesses, jobs and wages. Jobs located in the parish, not residents, as 2024 annual averages.
What the whole state looks like
- 8.00 to 12.99 percent. The full spread of published combined rates, from Bienville at the bottom to Ouachita at the top. The median parish starts at 9.25 percent.
- 9 parishes. Levy no occupational license tax at all outside their towns: Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Grant, Lafayette, Lincoln, Red River, Sabine, Union. Lafayette does not levy one inside the city either.
- 4.50 points. The widest gap inside a single parish, in Webster. In parishes like that, asking "what is the rate here" has no single answer.
- $739 to $2,237. Average weekly wage, from Franklin to Cameron. The top of that range is refineries and terminals, not a broad local labor market.
Every parish
Sales tax is the range across all taxing jurisdictions inside the parish. The license position is whether the parish levies an occupational license tax outside the towns, which is an annual tax separate from sales tax. Business, job and wage figures are jobs located in the parish, 2024 annual averages. Cameron Parish publishes no combined rate, so none is shown rather than a guess.

Full parish guides
Deeper guides are being written parish by parish. Each one carries the jurisdiction by jurisdiction tax table, the license position town by town, who to call, and how the parish compares with the ones it touches.
- Vermilion Parish. Sales tax by jurisdiction, licensing by town, what the parish runs on, and how it compares with its five neighbours.
- Every rate in the state. All 452 taxing jurisdictions with the return column letter, the local and state split, and the office that collects each portion.
Before you use this to choose
Louisiana sales tax follows the job site, not your office. Registering in a cheaper parish does not let you charge its rate on work performed in a dearer one. These figures are useful for deciding where to locate, hire and file. They are not a way to charge less.
Rates also change, and some parishes publish tables with future effective dates. Every figure here carries the date it was checked. Before you charge or file, confirm with the collector listed for your parish.
If you are weighing a second location, the grow a business guide covers what changes the day you work across a parish line.
