Local Market Research
Map the owner's local market end to end: how many similar shops operate in and around their area, how those competitors' reviews, websites, and social followings stack up, and how many of the owner's ideal customers live nearby — ranked by zip code — delivered as a comprehensive PDF report. Use when the owner asks about competition, whether the area can support them, where their customers live, or for any local market or competitor research.

How it works
What this skill does
Turns "who am I up against, and who's my customer around here?" into a real PDF market report: every similar shop in and around your area, how they look online (reviews, websites, social following), and how many of your ideal customers live nearby — ranked by zip code.
How Miles runs it
- Scopes it with you — your trade area, your ideal customer (say,
health-aware, organic-minded, middle to upper-middle income), and who counts as competition. Miles proposes smart defaults from your business profile; you just correct them.
- Counts the competition — every similar shop nearby, with ratings,
review counts, and distance. Adjacent rivals too (for a butcher: farmers markets and high-end grocers, not just other meat shops).
- Sizes up their online game — websites, review themes (what customers
praise and complain about), social platforms and follower counts. Only real, verifiable numbers — never guesses.
- Sizes the demand — public Census data for your surrounding zip codes:
how many households match your ideal customer, and which neighborhoods they're concentrated in.
- Finds the gaps — what nobody nearby offers, where competitor complaints
point at an opening, and your top 3 moves.
- Hands you the report — a clean, comprehensive PDF with every figure
sourced, and remembers the numbers so the next run shows what changed.
Requires
Nothing extra — it runs on web research and public data. It gets sharper when your website, Analytics, or Search Console are connected, so Miles can compare you to the field.
