Document a capacity plan (staffing and throughput targets for growth)
Growth dies when you can't deliver the work you've won. Planning operational capacity — people, tools, and time — ahead of demand means you can say yes to more business without quality falling apart.
Do this
- Calculate your current capacity (jobs you can deliver per week).
- Project demand for the next few months.
- Spot where demand will outrun capacity.
- Add people, tools, or hours before you hit the wall.
Capacity Planning Frame
1. Current capacity: crew hours available ÷ real hours per job = jobs/week
2. Projected demand: expected jobs/week over the next 3 months (use your forecast)
3. Find the gap: When does demand > capacity?
4. Close it ahead of time: hire, add equipment, add hours, or improve efficiency BEFORE the crunch — scrambling after you've won the work is how quality breaks.
