What actually happens in a sale, start to finish
Selling feels scary when it looks like one big make-or-break moment. It isn't. Every sale is a short, predictable path: someone has a problem, you show you can help, they come to trust you, and they say yes. Once you can see the path, you always know what to do next — and you can stop dreading it.
Do this
- Learn the five steps: they notice a problem → you talk and understand it → you show how you help → you ease their worries → they decide.
- You don't have to be slick at any of them. Being helpful and clear beats being smooth.
- Figure out which step this conversation is on, then just do that one thing — don't juggle all five.
- Don't jump to the price before they trust you. The steps work in order for a reason.
The five steps of every sale
You're never lost if you know which step you're on:
1. THEY NOTICE A PROBLEM "My car's making a noise." 2. YOU UNDERSTAND IT Ask questions. Listen. Repeat it back. 3. YOU SHOW YOU CAN HELP Tie your fix to the exact problem they named. 4. YOU EASE THE WORRIES Price, trust, timing — answer what's holding them. 5. THEY DECIDE You ask; they say yes.
Stuck? You've probably skipped a step. Go back one and it usually unblocks.
