Start to Exit: The Bizer Blueprint
A 16-quadrant framework to go from start to exit.
Most business advice is a pile of tips. Do this on social media, try that pricing trick, hire when it hurts. None of it tells you where you actually are or what to do next. The Bizer Blueprint is the opposite of a pile of tips. It is a map of everything a healthy business needs, laid out so you always know your position and your next move, from the day you start to the day the business could run, or sell, without you.
This is the first article in a book we are publishing one chapter at a time. Here is the whole framework on one page.
The four pillars: the jobs every business has
Every business, in every trade, has to do four things well. The Blueprint calls these the four pillars, and it lists them in order of survival:
- Money keeps the lights on. Do you know, control, and grow your numbers?
- Customers keep the phone ringing. Can you find, win, and keep the people who pay you?
- Work delivers what you promised. Does the job get done reliably, without living in your head?
- Management points the whole thing somewhere. Is there a plan, a structure, and a leader beyond the owner?
The four phases: the same climb, in every pillar
Each pillar goes through the same four phases, in order. They are the maturity arc of a business:
- Start: get the basics in place.
- Build: make it consistent.
- Grow: make it strategic.
- Exit: make it independent of the owner. Exit means a transferable asset, not a for-sale sign.
Sixteen quadrants, one score
Four pillars crossed with four phases give you sixteen quadrants. Each one is a named capability zone with a short checklist of concrete, provable steps behind it:
- Money: Financial Visibility, Financial Control, Financial Strategy, Financial Transferability.
- Customers: Customer Discovery, Customer Acquisition, Customer Expansion, Customer Asset.
- Work: Basic Operations, Operational Consistency, Operational Efficiency, Scalable Operations.
- Management: Owner Direction, Managed Structure, Leadership Systems, Transferable Leadership.
Every quadrant is worth 25 points. A phase band, its four quadrants across all pillars, is worth 100. Add a floor of 100 that every registered business starts on, and four bands of 100, and you get the Bizer Score: a whole number from 100 to 500 that measures how strong and how transferable your business really is.
- 100 every registered business starts here, nothing proven yet.
- 200 Start complete, the universal, lender-ready fundamentals.
- 300 Build complete, real systems run the day to day.
- 400 Grow complete, you are winning and scaling on purpose.
- 500 Exit, a business that runs and could sell without you.
Three rules keep the score honest
- Points are gated. A band only banks its 100 once the band below it is complete
across all four pillars. One brilliant pillar cannot skip a phase, so a 200 means the same thing for every business: real and fundable.
- Proof is a multiplier. A step is worth half its points on your word and full once
it is proven, by a connected tool, a document, or an advisor who sighted it. An all-yes self-assessment with nothing proven lands at 150 and stays in Start.
- The score can fall. The recurring practices, like a monthly finance review, run on
a freshness clock and fade if you stop doing them. A strength score that cannot fall is not measuring current strength.
Read the book, one chapter at a time
The next four chapters walk the climb phase by phase. Start with the one that matches where you are today:
- Chapter 1. Start: become a real business
- Chapter 2. Build: make it consistent
- Chapter 3. Grow: make it strategic
- Chapter 4. Exit: make it run without you
You do not have to figure out what a ready business looks like. The Blueprint already knows. Find your score, find your weakest quadrant, and take the next step.
