Document two or more specific customer segments

Not all customers are the same — they buy different things for different reasons. Defining specific segments lets you tailor your message and spend your marketing where it actually lands.

Do this

  1. Group your customers by what they need or how they buy (e.g. homeowners vs. businesses).
  2. Give each segment a short name and describe what they want.
  3. Note which segment is most profitable and easiest to reach.
  4. Tailor at least one message or offer to each.

Customer Segment Map

List 2-4 segments like this:

SEGMENT NAME: Who they are: What they need from you: What they pay / how often: Best way to reach them:

Example: "Fleet owners" — need trucks serviced on-site, pay monthly, reach via referrals & LinkedIn. "Individual drivers" — need a quick oil change, pay per visit, reach via Google & Facebook.

Focus your energy on the most profitable, easiest-to-reach segment first.
