Selling isn't pushing — it's helping someone say yes
Most owners hate 'selling' because they picture a pushy stranger talking people into things they don't need. Real selling is the opposite: you help enough people get what they actually want, and the sales take care of themselves. When you sell to serve, you stop dreading it — and customers feel the difference.
Do this
- Before any pitch, get clear on the one problem this customer is trying to solve.
- Talk about what it does for them (peace of mind, time back, no more breakdowns) — not the spec sheet.
- Be willing to say 'you don't need this' when it's true. It's the fastest way to earn trust.
- Aim to be the most helpful person they talk to that week. That's the whole strategy.
Turn features into what they actually buy
People buy the result, not the thing. Say the result out loud:
"Full synthetic oil change" → "You won't think about your engine for 6 months." "We're licensed and insured" → "If anything goes wrong, you're covered — not me." "Same-day service" → "You're not stuck without a car tomorrow." "20 years in business" → "You're not my practice run."
Write the left column for what you sell. Then say the right column to the customer.
