Optimize Your Website Homepage
Get found · Search visibility · About an hour of your time · 1 to 2 weeks · By Bizer
Most small-business homepages say who the business is but never say plainly what it does and where. This campaign picks one realistic search phrase and rewrites the parts of the homepage search engines and visitors read first.
The objective
Make the homepage clearly about your primary service, so the right people can find it in search and understand it in seconds.
When this campaign fits
You have a website, but the homepage does not clearly name your main service or the area you serve.
What you will need
- Your website address
- Your main service, and the area you serve
- Access to edit your homepage, or the person who can
What Bizer prepares
- A review of your current homepage title, description, headline and opening copy
- One realistic primary search phrase, with the reason it was chosen
- A page title and meta description written around that phrase
- A new headline and opening paragraph, plus a short list of copy changes
What you do
- Check every claim is true
- Approve the changes
- Publish them, or send them to whoever runs your site
What you get
A homepage SEO package: title, meta description, headline and copy changes, published or ready to publish.
Step by step
- Step 1: Bizer reviews your homepage and suggests one primary search phrase.
- Step 2: Bizer drafts the page title, meta description, headline and opening copy.
- Step 3: You check the facts and approve or edit the drafts.
- Step 4: You publish the changes, or hand them to your web person.
- Step 5: A few weeks later, look at search impressions, clicks and inquiries.
How you will know it worked
Work completed
- Changes published: Title, description and headline live
Campaign response
- Search impressions and clicks: Compared with the month before
Business outcome
- Relevant inquiries: Calls or messages that mention the service
A finished campaign is not a guaranteed result. Each measure is tracked on its own.
What it needs connected
- Your website (a WordPress connection lets Bizer publish with your approval)
- Google Search Console (optional, to see impressions and clicks)
Why one phrase
A homepage that tries to rank for everything usually ranks for nothing. Pick the one search a good customer is most likely to type, such as "roof repair in Lafayette" or "dog grooming near Houma", and make the page unmistakably about it. Other services can have their own pages later.
How to pick a realistic phrase
- Specific beats broad. "Emergency plumber Baton Rouge" is a better target than "plumber".
- Use your customers' words. If people call it "AC repair", do not write "HVAC remediation services".
- Match what you actually do. The phrase has to be true for the page to keep visitors.
Bizer suggests a phrase and tells you why. If you know your customers search differently, change it before anything is drafted.
What changes on the page
- The page title shows in the browser tab and as the blue link in search results.
- The meta description is the short summary under that link. It does not change rankings directly, but a clear one earns more clicks.
- The headline and first paragraph tell a visitor in a few seconds that they are in the right place.
After you publish
Search engines take time to notice changes, often a few weeks. Write down the date you published. If you connect Google Search Console, compare impressions and clicks for the month after with the month before. This campaign improves the page; it cannot promise a ranking.
